President, Chief Investment Officer

 

Gary Morris is President and Chief Investment Officer at Cidel, where he oversees the investment team and leads investment strategy across private client and institutional portfolios. He joined Cidel in 2021 and was appointed Chief Investment Officer in January 2026, having previously served as Head of Fixed Income.

Gary began his investment career as a fixed income analyst at McLeod Young Weir (now Scotia Capital) – known for its bond franchise, before moving into portfolio management and eventually becoming head of fixed income at Canada Life Investment Management (now part of The Canada Life Assurance Company).

In 2010, he founded an independent fixed income investment management firm Lorica Investment Counsel, where he served as president and portfolio manager prior to joining Cidel.

Throughout his career, Gary has managed portfolios for both institutional and private clients and has been deeply involved in portfolio construction, risk management, and investment process design. He has also developed proprietary portfolio analytics that continue to form part of Cidel’s fixed income investment framework.

Gary has a BASc (Engineering Science) from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business. He holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation.

An avid cyclist, Gary combines his passion for the sport with philanthropy. He is a founding rider and organizing committee member of R4//Campfire Circle, a charitable cycling event that raises funds to support children with serious illness and send them to camp. He also volunteers as a counsellor at Campfire Circle alongside his daughter.
